Introduction:
Professor Andy Hsitien Shen, chief editor of the Journal of Gems & Gemmology and doctoral supervisor of the Gemmological Institute of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), is a distinguished expert in Hubei Province, China, and a distinguished scholar in the 100-Talents Program of Hubei Province. He obtained his Ph.D. in Mineral Physics from Cornell University. He was previously an assistant professor of mineral physics in the Department of Geosciences at Cambridge University; an associate research fellow in the School of Geology and Planetary Sciences at California Institute of Technology; and a senior research fellow in GIA. He has published more than 100 papers in international and domestic academic journals and is a permanent member of the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the Mineralogical Society of America (MSA) and the Chinese Society of Mineral and Rock Geochemistry. He is currently serving as the Chairman of the Commission of Gem Materials (CGM) in International Mineralogical Association (IMA); a member of the Scientific Committee of The Dr. Eduard Gübelin Research Scholarship (Switzerland) and a member of the Advisory Board of the Gemstones and Sustainable Development Knowledge Hub at the University of Delaware, USA.
