Application of Scythian Crouching Deer Pattern in Jewelry Design

  • Scythian is the representative of the nomadic people in the Iron Age of the Eurasian steppe, its crouching deer pattern not only integrates the history, culture and religious beliefs of the steppe, the unique stylized expression also makes it one of the representative artistic images of the steppe animal totems. Through the research of relevant literature, the author discusses the important significance of the crouching deer pattern from the perspectives of art and religion, respectively.Taking the rules of contemporary formal beauty as a reference, the aesthetic features of the Scythian crouching deer pattern are summarized, which are mainly the beauty of proportion and scale in composition, the beauty of visual symmetry and balance, and the beauty of rhythm in details.Through the analysis of modern design cases, the design methods of retaining element characteristics, borrowing traditional craftsmanship and filling in auxiliary elements are sorted out. Finally, in the design practice, the pattern is integrated with Chinese traditional cloud pattern by deconstruction and reconstruction to design a new jewelry that contains the two cultural elements, which opens up a new way of thinking of cultural integration design for future designers.
