Gemmological Characteristic of "Zijinsha"(Minuim)

  • In recent years, a kind of product that has very similar colour to cinnabar has appeared in the online shopping broadcast room, and its market name is "Zijinsha". In this papers, the mineral components, chemical compositions and charateristics of the samples collected were studied by conventional gemmological instruments, X-ray fluorescence spectrometer, Fourier trarsform infrared spectrometer, X-ray powder diffractometer and scanning electronic microscope. The results showed that the refractive index is 1.53, and the density is 3.38 g/cm3. The main mineral componens are minuim (Pb3O4)(also known as red lead mine)and barite(BaSO4), which are solidified by synthetic resin in order to imitate the cinnabar.
