Application and Development of China Traditional Gold Granulation in Modern Jewelry Design

  • The jewelry design industry in China is facing the contradiction between tradition and innovation. How to combine traditional cultural elements with modern jewelry style, and to create a variety of design trends, making jewelry works with tradition and fashion, are challenge problems for many designers. Gold granulation is one of the Chinese ancient fine gold processes. Craftwork made of gold granulation first appeared in the Warring States Period in China and the techniques had been developed in Tang Dynasty. In this article, the authors analyzed the manufacture methods of gold granulation and discussed its application and development in modern jewelry design. The old gold granulation is used as the present from the angle of artistic exploration, light luxury style and personality customization. The traditional jewelry technology is the source to nourish the development of modern jewelry design, which endows the meaning of the humanistic feelings and cultural significance of modern jewelry.
