A Quantitative Analysis on Quality Grading of Jadeite Jade

Appraisal for the quality grading of jadeite jade is observed by the visual measurement because of the variety and nondestructive characteristics of jadeite jade. The spectral reflectance and translucency of the samples tested by the microspectrophotometer could not be widely used for the quality grading of jadeite jade with different size, thickness and structure. A mathematical model of jadeite jade as a turbid media is established,and the coefficients of scatter (S), absorption (K) and reflectivity (R_∞)(infinite thickness of sample), which represent the colour and transparency of jadeite jade, are analysed and calculated by Kubelka-Munk theorem. The results of the quantitative analysis are accorded with the observation by the visual measurement for the quality grading of jadeite jade.
