Cutting Technique and Appraising Method of Faceted Cultured Pearl

  • The faceted pearl products are quite rare in China at present, which appeared on the pearl market abroad in 1997. For studying the cutting technique of the faceted cultured pearl, a great deal of cutting experiments are carried out with non-nucleared and round Chinese freshwater cultured pearl samples. The results show that it is quite fine for facets and convex effect when the surface of the samples with the size from 8 to 15 mm are cutted to 88 facets. The quality appraising method of the faceted cultured pearl is discussed in combination of the appraising standard of the round pearl with the cutting appraising standard of faceted gems, such as colour, luster, convex effect, spotting, cutting, size and shapes.
