CHARACTERS OF BIREFRINGENCE IN DIAMOND AND THEIR IMPLICATIONS

  • The different styles and composite of birefringence are caused by growth stress and post-growth stress. Diamond slabs show characters of growth stages and plastic deformation by polarizing microscopy. There are five causes of birefringence in diamond. The diamond slabs observed with polarizing microscopy show characters of multi stage growth, and post-growth plastic deformation which caused brown strip.
