Quantitative Test Method on Content of Wax in Jadeite Jade

According to the newest national standard(GB/T 16552——2003),the jadeite jade by waxing treatment should be classified to the artificial treatment type.Waxing is a necessary procedure in the manufacture of jadeite jade.The determinant problem whether the waxed jadeite jade is defined into the traditional enchancing("A-jade") or the artificial treating("B-jade") is troublesome at present.So,the method for testing the content of wax in jadeite jade is quite important.In the paper,a series of KBr disc samples allocated with different content of wax in jadeite jade are tested by using the infrared spectrometer.The absorbency of the wax at 2 919 cm^-1 is calculated by the method of baseline,and the formula is E/L=1 334.5C-0.068,which stands for the relation equation about the content of wax(C) and absorbency of wax / thickness of KBr disc samples(E/L).This formula could be used for the quantitative calculation of the content of wax in jadeite jade.
