Study on Hydrogrossular: Analogous Jade to Jadeite Jade

The analogous jade to yellow jadeite jade on oppearance on Chinese gem market is studied by using conventional gemmological methods and morden testing techniques(SEM,XRD,FTIR).The results show that the analogous jade is with refractive index of 1.734,density of 3.46 g/cm³,fine-grained cryptocrystalline texture.Under SEM,the crystal grains are in granular,angular and cataclastic shapes,with size of 2~5 μm.The study by XRD and FTIR indicates that the analogous jade consists of essential mineral hydrogrossular and auxiliary mineral vesuviante.Therefore,the gemmological characteristics of hydrogrossular are obviously different from that of yellow jadeite jade.
