Application of Vegetable Tanned Cowhide in Creation of Turquoise Jewelry

Based on the investigation of turquoise jewelry at home and abroad, the authors concluded that turquoise jewelry designers usually choose turquoise with good texture, beautiful colour and beautiful pattern for creation. However, the style of turquoise jewelry is relatively limited. Most of the turquoise with average quality, small size and irregular shape are not used, or optimized to imitate high-quality turquoise for sale. Therefore, the authors try to combine the leather materials with turquoise for innovative design. The vegetable tanned cowhide has the characteristics of plasticity, dye ability and carving ability, it can be processed in the later stage, which can bring unlimited possibilities to designers. Accordingly, this article mainly discusses how to apply vegetable tanned cowhide to the innovative design of turquoise jewelry through the gemological properties, the colour pattern of turquoise, and the connection method and jewelry modeling. The author hopes to improve the utilization of turquoise with poor quality in the jewelry design through this innovative way, thus enriching the existing turquoise jewelry style and promoting the development of the turquoise industry.
