Exploration Discussion on Modern Jade Carving Performance Based on Inheritance and Innovation

Traditional jade carving, as the carrier of culture, should be in accommodation and mutual promotion with the development of the age. The current development of jade carving, on the basis of inheriting and carrying forward the traditional culture, needs to be inclusive to enrich creation forms of jade carvings with modern aesthetic representations. By examining the application of modern technologies on the jade carving craft and the corresponding features of the works, the papers concluded that the application of new tools and the exploration of new materials are capable of forming new artistic features in jade carving, presenting corresponding artistic senses. The introduction of western sculpture conception to the basis of traditional techniques, such as round carving and relief, would largely enrich the representation forms of jade carving. The analysis of the creations of representative modern jade carving works indicates that guiding by traditional Chinese jade culture, emphasizing on the culture and modern aesthetic presented by jade carving works would better produce the spiritual meaning of jade carving under different themes. The borrowing from different artistic forms also has a powerful impact on modern jade carvings, with the extended subject matters of jade carving through the art of literature, opera and drawing, allowing the creation of jade carving within a wider range of themes. To better inheriting and carrying forward the jade culture, the forms of expression would need to be closely related to modern life, accommodating aesthetic, people's ideas and emotional needs, which leads the future direction of modern jade carving innovation.
