Abstract
The ten hearts-ten arrows diamond cutting is a new round diamond shape which is invented by Allove Jewelry Co., Ltd, Shenzhen. This exquisite ten fold symmetry cutting is different from traditional round brilliant cut diamond which has a series of small kite facets and making observers see ten hearts and ten arrows pattern through special optical instrument. In this paper, a computer 3D simulation system is used to calculate the brightness and analyze patterns of ten hearts-ten arrows diamond. The computer can give two quantitative feedback indicators:Brightness Return value and Visible Brightness Return value, which present brightness distribution and an ideal ten hearts-ten arrows diamond cut condition. Taking the diamond with 56% table proportion as an example, the authors concluded that under two different light sources, the best crown angle-pavilion angle cut combination exists when it shows maximum value of Brightness Return (BR) or the maximum value of Visible Brightness Return(VBR) and it also presents good ten hearts-ten arrows optical effects at the same time. It proves the feasibility of using computer 3D simulation system to analyze the rules between diamond cutting parameters and this special optical effects, which can give introduction to ten hearts-ten arrows diamond processing.
