Study on Ancient Theories about Colours of Jade and Early History of Application of Jadeite Jade

摘要: 通过考证古代有关玉符的文献记述,评述了古代对玉符的朴素和科学的认识;通过回顾有关玉德本质以及真玉致色机理的研究历史,探讨了与古代玉符对应的玉材材质,认为古代玉符学说描述的红玉、黄玉、黑玉以及那些“绿如翠羽”或“色如新草”的青玉最有可能是来自缅甸的各色翡翠。由此可以推论,翡翠输入中土大约在北宋时代或更早Abstract: A textural research is conducted toward the ancient theories about the jade colours, and the plain and scientific understanding by the ancientscholars in regard to the jade colours is revealed.After a review on the past study about the jade virtues and the colouring mechanisms for both nephrite jade and jadeite jade,the materials thatcorrespond to the ancientjade colours are explored in detail.It is most probable that the red,black and yellow as well as the green colours that were termed as“green as bird's feather” or“green as newly grown grass” may be indicative of its Burmese origin of jadeite jade.As a result,itcan be postulated thatjadeite jade imported into China could have occurred as early as the North Song Dynasty or even earlier.
