Gemmology of Abalone Shell and Analysis on the Origin of Its Iridescence

  • 摘要: 鲍贝壳作为一种有机宝石,具有美丽而独特的晕彩,鲍贝还能用来生产具有同样晕彩的贝附珍珠。较系统地测定了鲍贝壳的宝石学性质,并利用偏光显微镜、扫描电子显微镜,对比研究了几种产珠贝贝壳和一般的珍珠以及鹦鹉螺隔板的珍珠层结构。结合现代光学理论,分析了鲍贝壳具有独特晕彩的原因。
    Abstract: Abalone shell, as a kind of organic gemstone material, shows the beautiful and unique iridescence. Abalone can be used to produce blister pearl. The gemmological properties of abalone shell are tested systematically, and the structures of the nacre layers of pearls, abalone shells and nautilus shells are observed with the help of scanning electron microscope. Based on the theory of modern optics, the origin of the unique iridescence of abalone shell is analyzed.
