Common Types of Turquoise Imitations in the Market and Their Identification Characteristics

  • 摘要: 以广东省珠海市质量计量监督检测所珠宝检测实验室近几年来鉴定的代表性绿松石仿制品为研究对象,综合运用常规宝石学检测、红外光谱、紫外-可见光谱、扫描电子显微镜及X射线粉末衍射等技术手段,系统研究珠海珠宝市场流通的绿松石仿制品的种类,对比其与天然绿松石及优化处理绿松石的鉴定特征。结果表明,红外光谱中3 503 cm-1和3 460 cm-1处的羟基吸收峰是区分天然绿松石及其仿制品的关键指标,1 734 cm-1与2 855 cm-1或1 510 cm-1与1 611 cm-1处的吸收峰指示样品经充填处理;紫外-可见光谱中427 nm处特征吸收峰的缺失或680 nm附近宽吸收带的出现可作为染色的辅助判别依据;扫描电子显微镜的观察结果揭示了仿制品的微观形貌特征明显区别于天然绿松石的板状、片状层叠生长结构。对于成分复杂的绿松石仿制品(如重晶石与胶结物、钡长石陶瓷等),需结合X射线粉末衍射进行精准定性。本研究为绿松石的准确鉴定提供了实用技术参考,对规范市场秩序具有积极意义。

     

    Abstract: This study focused on the representative turquoise imitations identified in recent years by the Jewelry Testing Laboratory of Guangdong Zhuhai Supervision Testing Institute of Quality and Metrology. The types of turquoise imitations circulating in the Zhuhai jewelry market were systematically investigated, and the identification features of natural turquoise, treated turquoise, and their imitations were compared. Conventional gemmological methods combined with infrared spectroscopy (IR), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) were used for the investigation. The results showed that the hydroxyl absorption peaks at 3 503 cm-1 and 3 460 cm-1 in the IR spectrum serve as key indicators for distinguishing natural turquoise from imitations. Peaks of IR spectrum at 1 734 cm-1 and 2 855 cm-1, or at 1 510 cm-1 and 1 611 cm-1, indicate the presence of filler treatment. In UV-Vis spectroscopy, the absence of the characteristic absorption peak at 427 nm or the appearance of a broad absorption band around 680 nm can be used as auxiliary evidence for dyeing. SEM observation reveals that the micro-morphology of imitations is significantly different from the platy or layered growth structure of natural turquoise. For compositionally complex imitations, such as barite-cemented composites or barium feldspar ceramics, XRD is essential for accurate identification. This study provides practical technical guidance for the accurate identification of turquoise and contributes to standardize market practices.
