Turquoise Inlay Craftsmanship and Ideology of Chu-Style Bronze Ware

Abstract: This study investigated the turquoise inlay craftsmanship of Chu-style bronze ware, analyzed its origins, types and underlying philosophies to reveal the unique manifestation of Chu culture in material art. By integrating literature review, archaeological data, and case studies of the artifacts, this study systematically traced the development of turquoise inlay craftsmanship from Erlitou culture to the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, and provided a technical analysis of 3 distinctive types of inlay crafts: independent, linear conformal, and three-dimensional composite. The findings showed that this craftsmanship not only embodies the concept of "practicality-oriented", but also involved the aesthetic insight of "applying art according to the material" and the spirit of innovative adaptation.
