Abstract: Chinese auspicious motifs represent a vital component of traditional folk culture, reflecting the Chinese nation's yearning and pursuit for a better life. This study traced the historical evolution and cultural connotations of Chinese auspicious motifs, conducted a series of market surveys in four major jade markets of Guangdong, analyzed the present situation and problems of the design and application of jade carvigs with the Chinese auspicious motifs, and finally took dragon patterns as a typical case. On this basis, this study identified the characteristics of exemplary dragon patterned jade products in the market and proposed an innovative design strategy encapsulated as "shape-adaptive, meaning-preserving, and spirit-transmitting". The feasibility of this innovative design strategy was demonstrated through the practical case study of the original jadeite pendant series Dragon Guard. A theoretical framework applicable to the innovative design of Chinese auspicious motifs in contemporary jade carving was established. This framework aims to provide a reference methodology for the modern transformation of the Chinese auspicious motif system, and contributes to the enrichment of the artistic expressiveness of jade carving. It also plays an active role in promoting the inheritance and development of excellent traditional Chinese culture.
