  • The Russian hydrothermal synthetic emerald has caught the attentions of the gemmologists.Five Russian hydrothermal synthetic emerald samples are tested for the conventional gemmological characteristics,chemical compositions,infrared absorption spectra and ultraviolet-visible absorption spectra.The results show that the Russian hydrothermal synthetic emerald samples are characterized by low alkali,rich Fe and Cr and higher RI and SG.In addition,4 052 cm-1 is the characteristic absorption peak of the Russian hydrothermal synthetic emerald samples and the colouring elements are Cr and Fe.The gemmological characteristics of the Russian and Guilin hydrothermal synthetic emerald samples are also comparied with that of the natural emerald samples.
