  • With the increasing demand of amber and the improvement and innovation of optimization treatment techniques of amber,there are some new trends in the pressed amber market.This paper attempts to explore gemmological parameters,detailed microtexture observations and IR spectra of pressed amber such as pressed golden amber,pressed red amber,“sunflower”pressed amber,roast pressed amber,pressed blue amber,pressed-cemented amber,pressed opaque amber by using gemmological microscope,polarizing microscope and scanning electron microscope(SEM).The results show that the typical textures for the identification of pressed amber are granular texture,red spot texture,mosaic texture without red flow layers,cemented texture and so on.The inclusions for the identification of pressed amber are granular“sunflower”distributed around boundaries,disorganized veins,leaf-like veins,sponge-like flow layers and so on.If the ratio of I=2 932cm-1/I=1 723 cm-1 in the IR spectrum of blue amber is close to 1,it is implied that the blue amber may have undergone optimization treatment.
