  • By using gem microscope,polarizing microscope,X-ray powder diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,the gemmological,mineralogical and spectral characteristics of the imitation samples of malachite appeared in the Beijing jewelry market are studied.The results show that the imitation samples are mainly composed of barite and subordinate mineral of quartz or calcite,which are cemented by epoxy resin.The identification characteristics between the natural malachite and its imitaion are the lower relative density,hollows on the surface and infrared spectra.
