A Study on Colour Durability of Enhanced and Treated Gemstones

More Information
  • Received Date: October 10, 2011
  • We have chosen some common materials like purple, orange, pink, green, black treated pearls, pink orange, golden yellow sapphires with beryllium diffusion treatment, and filled jadeites as samples, and have made experiments to analyze their colour durability. The results show that filled jadeites and beryllium diffusion treatment sapphires show good durability after the exposure to sunshine, the salt spray environment and artificial sweat. The treated pearls show good durability in the salt spray environment, fade clearly under the exposure to sunshine, and suffer colour damage for daily contact with sweat. The study on the colour durability of the samples can provide some bases and reference for the market access of enhanced and treated gemstones.
