Study on Gemmological Characteristics of Idocrase Jade

  • A new jade——idocrase jade, also known as californite, is found in the market in China. It is similar to jadeite jade in the appearance, relative density and visible absorption spectrum. The gemmological characteristics are investigated systematically by using EMPA, X-ray powder diffraction, IR reflectance spectrum and laser Raman spectrum. The idocrase jade can be easily identified from jadeite jade and hydrogrossular by its higher refractive index, texture and 465 nm absorption spectrum.
