Laser Raman Spectroscopic Characteristics of Gem-Quality Red Coral

More Information
  • Received Date: June 17, 2007
  • Gem-quality red coral is an important organic material. The familiar commercial species of gem-quality red corals are named with MOMO (Corallium Elatium), AKA (Corallium Japonicum), SARDIN (Corallium Rebrum). The gem-quality red coral samples are tested by laser Raman spectroscope, which exist a suit of peaks at 1 016, 1 128, 1 296, 1 518, 2 147, 2 250, 2 633, 3 032, 3 361, 3 740 cm-1.The results show that the white part of the gem-quality red coral samples has the same spectrum characteristics as the natural white coral.Through the Raman spectra, the natural gem-quality red coral samples have the similar organic components which could result in the colour of the gem-quality red coral.
