Study on Gemmological Characteristics of a New Type of Glass: a Kind of Imitative Nephrite

A new type of glass is a kind of imitative nephrite, which often appears in the nephrite wholesale market.The appearance of the new type of glass resembles nephrite and its infrared mapping spectrum is almost similar to that of nephrite, which results in some difficulties and risks in the fast identification of nephrite.The present paper investigates the gemmological characteristics of the new type of glass by using routine gemmological testing and infrared spectroscopy testing.The results show that the new type of glass is quite different from nephrite in nature though its infrared mapping spectrum is almost similar to that of nephrite.According to the current national standards, its identification name can be directly named glass.At the same time, this paper puts forward some suggestions for the fast identification of this new type of glass.
