Characteristics of Tahitian Black Pearls and Their Application in Identification

The Raman spectra of various Tahitian black pearls have been tested, from which two kinds of substance are found, one is aragonite, the other is a kind of black pigment Even though the exact chemical compositions of the black pigment are not known, the spectra can be applied to the identification of pearls from Pinctada magaritifera.
