  • A new gem material which looks very like turquoise is introduced in this paper.It is opaque and has bright apple-green with brown patches or matrix in it.The main mineral component of the new gem material is Mg-rich gaspeite, a very rare nickel carbonate.It is first found in Gaspe Peninsula, Quebec, Canada, and named.Its Mohs hardness is only 4.5~5.0 and good cleavage, so it is hard to be cut.But due to the rare resource and uplifting colour, gaspeite will increase in value and worthy of being invested.
