Abstract
Abstract:As the resource is exhausted at home and abroad, emeraldI becomes more and more rare and precious gemstones. Fissures and inclusions commonly exist in emerald, which seriously affect appearance and price of emerald. Therefore, the fissures are usually filled by the materials being a similar refractive index to that of emerald, such as oils, resins and green dye, etc, which could reduce the visibility of the fissures and improve the appearance and durability of emerald. Sometimes, filling is very little and fissure is small and dispersive, which could not be easily found by using gem microscope. So the fluorescence characteristics of fissures and fillings in emerald samples are observed under DiamondViewTM. What's more, 12 pieces of emerald samples are tested by Raman spectrometer, infrared spectrometer and gem microscope in order to verify whether the emerald samples have been filled or not. The results show that DianmndViewTM is an effective tool to identify filled emeralds, and improves the efficiency and accuracy of routine work, which provides usefull informaton for identifying the components of fillings by infrared spetrometer and Raman spectrometer.
