Gemmological Characteristics of “Taishan” Jade

Recently,"Taishan" jade is a new kind of product in the jade market.The "Tai-shan" jade samples are studied by using the conventional gemmological methods,polarizing microscope,infrared spectrometer.The results show that the main mineral component of "Taishan" jade is serpentine.According to the national standards,the "Taishan" jade should be named "Xiu Yu" or "serpentine".The "Taishan" jade with tremolite need be verified and studied further.The "Taishan" jade is of high content of Cr,Fe and Ni,which could be different from that of "Xiu Yu" from Liaoning province.There is a good developing prospect for the jade combining the Chinese "Taishan" culture and jade traditional culture.
