A Preliminary Study on "Heidan" Stone

摘要: 在北京的一些珠宝市场出现了一种被称为“黑胆石”的饰品,呈黑色,具有强磁性,商家或称其为“赤铁矿”,或称为“乌刚石”。为了得到这种材料的确切名称,采用常规宝石学测试和一些大型仪器对其进行了初步研究。结果表明,这种“黑胆石”样品的主要成分为Fe和Sr,其化学成分为SrO.6Fe₂O₃,因此推测,这种“黑胆石”样品为一种人造磁性材料铁酸锶,而不是市场上人们所说的赤铁矿或乌钢石。

Abstract: A kind of so-called "Heidan" stone is appeared in Beijing jewelry markets.It is black and has strong magnetism,which is called "hematite" or "goethite" by traders.The stone samples are preliminarily studied by using the conventional gemmological tests and advanced equipments in order to get the correct name.The results show that the samples are mainly composed of Fe and Sr,and the chemical composition is SrO·6Fe₂O₃.So the stone is inferred an artificial magnetic material——strontium ferrite,but not hematite or goethite.
