An Analysis of Competitiveness of Three Major Jewelry Industrial Clusters(Areas)in China

  • The jewelry industry is known as a very promising industry in China. How to enhance the competitiveness of the jewelry industry in various economic zones is very important for pushing forward the development of the jewelry industry in the whole country. In this paper, the improved competitiveness valuation model is used to compare the competitiveness characteristics of the emerging jewelry industrial clusters in the Pearl Delta, the Yangtze Delta and the Bohai Coastal Region. The results show that each of these three clusters has its own advantages and disadvantages in six internal and external factors of the competitiveness, and their overall competitiveness is highly attributed to the joint effect of the internal and external factors, but the advantages of the internal factors in the Pearl Delta contribute greatly to the sustainable development of the jewelry industrial cluster in this region.Consequently, for the enhancement of the international competitiveness of the jewelry industry in China, the authors recommend that the national administrative authorities should provide more guidance in drawing China’s jewelry industrial schematization, making the strategic alignment of the three clusters based on their own external influencing factors, and enhancing their own competitiveness superiority for the three clusters through bringing up the internal factors such as technical innovation, brand construction and so on.
