Abstract:
The dendrite pattern(“Shuicaohua”)in yellow quartzite jade is of great commercial value due to its beauty and variety. However,so far, limited information on its mineral composition and the possible formation mechanism of the dendrite pattern has been published. In this paper, yellow quartzite jade with typical dendrite pattern collected from Longling,Yunnan Province was studied with optical microscopic techniques,X-ray fluorescence spectrometer,Raman scattering spectrometer and micro-FTIR techniques and it's found that the dendrite is composed predominantly of pyrolusite, goethite and organic materials. And the formation of dendrite should attribute to the crystallization processes of the fracture filled with the Mn,Fe minerals and organics. This study also can help us understand the geochemical environment of the quartzite jade.
