Abstract:
Muling in Heilongjiang Province, located in the northeast of China, is an important part of the corundum deposits associated to magmatite at home. It is important to understand corundum foundation process for rational exploitation by revealing gemmological properties.
Ruby and sapphire samples were collected in placer deposits associated to alkali basalt from Muling,Heilongjiang Province.Rubies are gems of high quality and violetish red, while sapphires have more colours such as yellow and blue. The yellow suite and light blue suite possess pure colour with well transparency, while dark blue suite is opaque with dull colour. Besides, the variety of inclusions can be observed by microscope.Raman spectroscopy con— firms that a large number of C0
2 fluid inclusions and leaked fluid inclusions are contained in the samples.Based on geologic information of Muling, authors hold that corundum might have originated from the oxidization conditions of C0
2 fluid enrichment and resulted from stratum metasomatism.
