Abstract:
A popular red and green jade was analyzed by naked eye observation and magnification, gemmological routine tests,UV-Vis absorption spectrometer, infrared spectrometer and X-ray powder diffraction. It is mainly composed of minerals of three different colours, whose particles vary from giant grain to fine grain. From the surface of mineral particles of large size, three kinds of infrared reflection spectra can be obtained. The spectra are basically in agreement with the reference spectra of potassium feldspar, quartz and epidote.Through X-ray powder diffraction analysis, the mineral components of sample can be confirmed, According to the integrated identification results, the sample is cataclastic structure, which is similar to the mineral named “unakite”in literature.
