Abstract:
Research on the origin and occurrence of gems and jades is one of the hottest topic in geology, gemmology and archaeology. On the one hand, gems and jades of different origin may have different quality, characteristics and value, and the research on the origin and occurrence can be helpful to the appraisal for the jewelry, providing the technological supports to the Customs. On the other hand, the determination of the occurrence is of great significance to find out the ancient gem mining as well as the development of science and technology of the ancient and cultural exchanges between different regions.By summing up the previous studies and combining with the latest researches on the modern microanalysis, the application of microanalysis in study of the origin and occurrence of gems and jades is summarized on the aspects of trace elements, inclusions and isotopes in this article. The current studies show that the different techniques are of a certain significance to determine the origin of the gems and jades, while finalizing origin often deeply and widely relies on the cross analysis on the geochemistry of gems,by using various testing techniques.Obviously,it is the key to the final settlement of the typomorphic characteristics of the origin and occurence of the different gem types and establishing a geochemical database of important mines.
