工艺传统与现代科技:共同开创未来珠宝设计的双生花——以美国纽约州立大学时装技术学院珠宝设计课程中数码科技和模拟技术的应用为例

Craft Traditions and Technology: Inseparable Partners in Creating the Future of Jewelry Design How Digital Technology and Analog Skills are Developed and Integrated into the Jewelry Design Curriculum of the Fashion Institute of Technology, SUNY, New York

  • 摘要: 关于传统工艺和现代科技在珠宝设计和制作中的地位孰轻孰重在当今业内是一个非常热门的话题:是现代科技能避开手工的局限性而给予创作者更多设计上的可能性,还是传统的首饰制作工艺才能赋予作品艺术灵魂?美国纽约州立大学时装技术学院将数码科技和工匠的传统技艺精心的穿插到新的课程中,教会学生一些珠宝工艺中解决问题的关键技能。与此同时,学院开展更多的跨学科合作,旨在为珠宝工匠创造更多的平台。从课程开发的角度来看,这两者的关系不会是一成不变的,因为变化是必然和不间断的;而从教育的角度出发,传统工艺和现代科技都是老师要教会学生创造的工具。可以说,两者都是珠宝工艺创新革命中不可分离的双生花。

     

    Abstract: At this moment in the 21st century,we are all keenly aware of the break-neck pace of technology in our industry.Virtual imaging accelerates the design process;engineering software facilitates 3-D model making;3-D printing creates models in a fraction of the time needed by a craftsman.Even the vocabulary we use to describe manufacturing has changed-"…terms such as ‘CAD modeling’, ‘sintering’ and ‘CNC milling’ sit comfortably alongside ‘carving’, ‘casting’,and ‘lathing’ as the vernacular of the modern toolkit."1.In this paper,the author described the ideas and realizations in the latest course development in the Fashion Institute of Technology.
