Abstract: Through reviewing the establishing history of Gem and Material Technology speciality in college,the theoretical problems faced by this speciality in its future development are probed deeply in the paper.That is the property of the subject and the background of culture,the constitution of the subject and the connotation of the knowledge,the direction of the subject and the location of the practice,the mission of the subject and the social function.Based on this,the model of the social function of multi-level technical education is set up.Therefore,it may deduce that Gem and Material Technology speciality in college is belonged to the higher vocational-technical education of multi-level technical education.Meanwhile,the models of the social function and the subject constitution of the technical education are constructed in order to establish the location of the social practice for Gem and Material Technology.
