Abstract:
In Gama Town of Qamdo County in the east of Tibet,by Zaqu river,a lot of Tibetan artisans are living by means of metal art making.They are the typical representatives of metal craft artisans group from Qamdo area.Local traditional metalwork mainly includes jewellery handicrafts and handcrafted implements and buddharupa for Tibetan Buddhism,which has a long history.Gama Town is known as the“the handicraft township”.It has a great influence not only in Qamdo and Tibet area,but also in the whole Tibetan Buddhist region.In this paper,based on the information from the field investigation,the production method and life style of the area are studied.This paper also analyzes jewellery types and their technological characteristics influenced by industrialization process on the production and lives of the Tibetan jewellery artisans.Finally it explores the modern industrialization that impacts on the evolution of art styles of the traditional Tibetan jewellery.
