一种铍扩散处理红宝石的宝石学特征

Gemmological Characteristic of A Certain Type of Beryllium-Diffused Ruby

  • 摘要: Be扩散处理用作刚玉改色的方式已有近二十年的使用历史,近年来多见对黄色、橙色、蓝色Be扩散蓝宝石的研究,而Be扩散处理红宝石亦现身市场且鲜有报道,其特征研究对实验室检测具有重要意义。运用显微镜、红外光谱仪、GEM-3000珠宝检测仪、激光剥蚀电感耦合等离子质谱仪(LA-ICP-MS)以及X射线荧光光谱仪对一种Be扩散处理红宝石样品进行了常规宝石学特征、谱学特征及化学成分分析。结果显示,异于天然红宝石的橙红色调应引起检测人员警惕;放大观察结果表明不规则形态的晶体包裹体周围伴有圆形蓝色晕圈表明其经历了高温环境,是该类Be扩散处理红宝石的有力佐证;化学成分结果表明,该类红宝石样品中的Be含量大于4.4 ppmw,说明经过Be扩散处理,因此LA-ICP-MS是检测该类Be扩散处理红宝石的有效手段。

     

    Abstract: Beryllium diffusion treatment has been used for corundum colour modification for nearly twenty years. In recent years, studies of yellow, orange and blue beryllium-diffused sapphires have widely been seen while the beryllium-diffused ruby has not been paid enough attention even though it has also appeared in the market. The characteristics of beryllium-diffused ruby are essential for lab testing. A type of beryllium-diffused ruby was tested using microscope, FTIR, GEM-3000 jewelry detector, LA-ICP-MS and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry to study its gemmological characteristics, spectral characteristics and chemical compositions. The results showed an orange-red hue that is different from natural ruby, which more attention should be paid. Magnification observation revealed that the irregular shape crystal inclusions were accompanied by blue haloes, which indicated that it had experienced high temperature environment. LA-ICP-MS analysis readily identified the presence of beryllium, over 4.4 ppmw, in both two samples, which indicates that LA-ICP-MS is an effective way to test this sort of beryllium-diffused ruby.
