高密度无色合成立方氧化锆的宝石学特征及密度成因

Gemmological Characteristic and Density Genesis of High Density Colourless Synthetic Cubic Zirconia

  • 摘要: 近年来,广西梧州出现一种高密度无色合成立方氧化锆(CZ),但目前对于此种人工宝石的宝石学特征研究很少。利用傅里叶红外光谱仪、X射线粉末衍射仪、X射线荧光光谱仪及LA-ICP-MS对这种高密度CZ样品的宝石学特征进行了系统研究。研究表明,高密度CZ的相对密度约为6.60,在长短波紫外光下呈强蓝色荧光;普通密度CZ样品的相对密度约为5.96,荧光惰性,其余常规宝石学参数二者几乎一致。高密度CZ中含有约32 wt%的Gd元素,确定其为Gd2O3作稳定剂,推测Gd元素的相对原子质量偏高而导致高密度CZ样品的密度偏高。根据LA-ICP-MS数据计算出分子式,推算高密度CZ样品的相对密度应为6.93,与实测不符。由此推断,影响其密度的因素不仅是Gd元素的相对原子质量。由于离子半径Gd3+相较于Y3+和Zr4+偏大,推测Gd3+半径偏大导致晶体常数发生变化,致使密度少许下降。

     

    Abstract: In recent years, a kind of high density colourless synthetic cubic zirconia (CZ) has appeared in Wuzhou, Guangxi.But the gemmological characteristics of this artificial gemstone are rarely studied. The gemmological characteristics of this high density CZ were systematically investigated by using Fourier infrared spectrometer, X-ray powder diffractometer, X-ray fluorescence spectrometer and LA-ICP-MS. The results show that the relative density of this high density CZ is about 6.60, and it shows strong blue fluorescence under long and short wavelength ultraviolet light. The density of common CZ is about 5.96, the fluorescence is inert, besides, other conventional gemmological parameters between high density CZ and common density CZ are almost the same. High density CZ contains about 32 wt% Gd element, which is determined to be Gd2O3 as a stabilizer. It is speculated that the relative atomic mass of Gd element is high, which leads to a high density of CZ. The molecular formula was calculated based on the LA-ICP-MS data, the relative density of the high density CZ should be 6.93, which is not consistent with the measured value. It can be inferred that the relative atomic mass of Gd element is not the only factor affecting its density. Since the ionic radius of Gd3+ is larger than Y3+ and Zr4+, it is speculated that the larger radius of Gd3+ will lead to the change of crystal constant, resulting in a slight decrease in density. For the finished product, high density CZ is close to the colour of natural diamond cape series.
