Discussion on Chinese "Suihouzhizhu" by Using Ancient Documents as Clues

Abstract: Chinese "Suihouzhu" is a common term used in ancient Chinese literature to represent treasures. It is precious enough to be compared with the "Heshi Bi" (a priceless jade), which is regarded as the most famous jade in ancient China, and even leads to the words easy-going. However, it is still a mystery when we refer to when it appears, what it is and where it comes from. The academic community has not reached a conclusion. This paper takes ancient documents as a clue, by using the common databases of historical research such as Wenyuange Chinese Classic Ancient Books Library and Airusheng Chinese Basic Ancient Books Library to obtain classical versions of literature. Sorting the documents according to the time they were written, only the historical materials in the pre Qin, Han dynasty and a small amount of documents about Han Dynasty written in Wei and Jin dynasties were included, so that people's different perceptions of Chinese "Suihouzhu" in different historical periods could be seen. Discussing the time, circulation, size and material of Chinese "Suihouzhu", and proposes that the most likely material of the Chinese "Suihouzhu" is the ancient artificially fired dragonfly eye glass beads according to the time clues of the historical documents.
