Abstract:
"Bingying jade" is a kind of jade that sells in Guangzhou and Pingzhou market. In order to study the gemmological characteristics and the reason of the optical effect of the "Bingying jade" samples, in this study, the gemmological characteristics, thin section of the mineral, FTIR specta were investigated by conventional gemmological methods, polarizing microscope, FTIR, SEM and so on. The samples were also compared with quartzose jade ("Shuimo jade"), whose appearance is quite similar with the "Bingying jade". The result shows that the mineral components of "Bingying jade" is phanerocrystalline quartzite and the authors speculated that it has experienced a special geological events because of its orientation mylonitic texture. Because that the "Bingying jade" has the micro character (0.005 mm~0.800 mm grain size) and the unique orientation, with the double camber orientation cutting, "Bingying jade" shows the "glow" optical effect.
