Problem in Chinese Fresh-Water Pearl Industry and Countermeasure

  • China is one of the main countries in fresh-water pearl cultivation, and both annual gross product and export of pearl rank the first in the world. The cultured pearl product keeps growing, but the quality and price have dropped gradually since the 1990s. Such seriously impacts on the credit of pearl industry and hinders the further development of Chinese pearl industry. How to boost the Chinese cultured pearl trade is the key problem faced by the Chinese pearl industry, and solutions should be figured out as soon as possible. Upon synthetic analyses on the existing problems, some countermeasures and proposals are provided, which may be useful to the healthy development of the Chinese pearl industry.
